Which mixture's temperature is closer to zero?

A positive number means the temperature is above zero. A negative number means the temperature is below zero.

To find the temperature closer to zero, use absolute value. The absolute value of a temperature tells you how far it is from zero.

Bromine mixture:	absolute value bar – 4 absolute value bar = 4
Acetone mixture:	absolute value bar 5 absolute value bar = 5

The temperature of the bromine mixture is closer to zero. It is only 4 degrees below zero.
